After the success of 2011's inaugural event, the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright organised the second Galloway reCycle Sportive on Saturday the 11th August 2012. Cyclists could choose to ride either 67 miles or 102 miles, with each route starting and finishing in Kirkcudbright. A total of 221 riders entered.
The Galloway Recycle Sportive was held in support of a charity based in Kilmarnock called 'Killie Can Cycle.' They collect bikes donated from around Ayrshire and restore them to working order selling them at £5 - £30, mainly to children in Scotland. However, 20% are sent to Africa and they are donated free to charities in Malawi and Ghana who pass them on to children who use them to ride to school.
Set in the most delightful environment for cyclists with its quiet roads, beautiful countryside, rolling hills and spectacular views. The delightful town of Kirkcudbright has a busy fishing harbour and Marina and has a flourishing colony of painters and craft workers. The area offers a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, attractive coastal landscapes and safe country roads. This a vibrant community which organizes an incredible number of diverse events for all the family.
